It's a semi-solid injection molding process for magnesium alloys. Magnesium chips are fed into a heated barrel with a screw (much like a plastic injection molding machine), sheared and heated to a semi-solid "slushy" state partly liquid, partly solid and then injected at high speed into a steel mold. The name comes from thixotropy: the material flows when sheared but thickens at rest.

Consumer electronics enclosures (laptops, cameras, projectors), automotive components (seat frames, steering column parts, brackets, instrument panel beams), power tools, and increasingly lightweight structural parts anywhere weight reduction matters, magnesium is about a third lighter than aluminum.
